The development of your baby –
Now that you are in the fourth week of your pregnancy, your baby can now be called an embryo. Epiblast and hypoblast are the two layers of cell that make your embryo. These two layers will eventually grow into all of your baby’s organs and parts of his or her body. The amnion and the yolk sac are two other features that develop during this time as well. The amnion carries a fluid called the amniotic fluid which protects the growing baby while it is growing in the mother’s womb while the yolk sac performs the duty of providing the baby with nourishment and blood till the placenta takes over this function.
The development of your body –
During this week your baby is still implanting itself in the walls of the uterus which is also known as the endometrium. When it has completed implanting itself deep in the walls of the uterus, it will begin to release a hormone called hCG or human chorionic gonadotropin which actually helps in keeping the walls of the uterus strong. During this time, your embryo will send a signal to the ovary whereby the ovary will stop producing a new egg each month, thus bringing an end to your periods for the following nine months. In this week while the implantation takes place, some women experience slight spotting and bleeding which maybe mistaken for periods as they occur round about the expected date of your monthly period.
When you go for a pregnancy test, the hormone that brings you a positive result is hCG. This week if you go in for a pregnancy test, hCG will probably be detected to tell you that you are pregnant. hCG leads to the surfacing of the various symptoms associated with pregnancy. Fatigues, tenderness in the breasts, nausea are some of these symptoms which might start appearing from this week onward. The first few symptoms of pregnancy are very like the pre menstrual syndrome which most women experience. So the news that you are pregnant is in all probability going to come to you as a surprise as it does to most women. However you know by the end of this week that you are definitely pregnant when you miss your due period.
