signs and symptoms of week 3 pregnancy

The development of your baby –

What is fantastic about this week is that you do not feel yourself carrying a baby still but believe it or not, you actually are. You now have a baby growing inside you and working towards its development. The egg cell which gets fertilized goes through a process that we normally call cell division. Thirty hours post the fertilization the one egg cell begins to break down into multiples of two and continues to do so as it travels from the fallopian tube to the uterus. By the time these cells reach the uterus, these cells appear to look like a small ball and the ball is in medical terms called a morula. This then becomes a blastocyst which happens when the morula grows hollow and fills the space with a certain fluid. By the end of this week the blastocyst should have attached itself to the lining of the uterus. This process is known as implantation. This is an important process as the lining will help the baby to grow to get its daily dose of nutrition and also the remove waste products from the baby to the outside. After a point of time, this place of implantation will grow into what we know as the placenta.

The development of your body –

A well balanced food diet is an essential now. You should start eating all kinds of nutrients with of course an over dose of certain nutrients which are needed specifically by pregnant women. Folic acids, proteins, irons and calcium are some of these things that you should make sure you have a high intake of. Ideally you should have started taking food supplements with these things a while before you even got pregnant to strengthen your body and increase the chances of fertilization. Folic acid helps to keep the neural tube from becoming defective. The neural tube is the structure from which the spinal cord and brain develop for the fetus and this happens very early in pregnancy. Thus it is important that folic acid is taken in right doses so that the neural tube is strong and forms well.

Protein intake helps to form new tissues thus the consumption of protein food products should increase during pregnancy as well. Calcium is a mandatory for the growth of bones and teeth so dairy products and legumes are a good option for calcium. Iron helps to contribute to the volume of blood not only in the case of the mother but also the child so take enough of iron as well. Meats, eggs and vegetables help to add iron to your system.
