The development of your baby –
This is the first week of your second trimester in pregnancy. The placenta between you and your baby will have developed and started providing your baby with food and oxygen and helping in the disposal of waste secreted by your baby. This placenta also helps to produce hormones like estrogen and progesterone that will help you to survive a healthy pregnancy. By the time this week starts, your baby has well formed eyelids that will protect the eyes as and when they develop. The eye lids will help get your baby some rest, protect it from dirt and filth from entering its eyes and causing it pain. By the end of this week, your baby’s muscles are relatively stronger than before and he might be able to put his thumb into his mouth – the normal sucking that baby’s usually practice. However the sucking muscles are not as well developed yet so even though it can moves its limbs, it might not be able to suck on its thumb as such.
The development of your body –
When you went to your doctor for your first prenatal visit, you were probably given a few prescribed prenatal medicines to take. These were given to you so you could take them as supplements for your baby’s health. Along with these you need to eat a healthy and well balanced diet. This will give your baby an extra dose of mineral sand vitamins like folic acid, iron, zinc, calcium which will help during its process of growing up. A well developed baby is very important as while it is growing in your stomach, it is being conditioned to eat when post birth as well. Ask your doctor if you should drink your medicines or eat them as depending on the way the medicines are consumed, they work accordingly.
