Nausea is an annoying but inevitable side effect of pregnancy. In fact it is welcomed by most mothers since it happens to be one of those first few signs of your pregnancy. However sometimes the problem of nausea can get to you, when you realize that it is highly aggravated and just won’t let you rest in peace. You tend to experience nausea which is also known as morning sickness or pregnancy vomiting in the wee hours of the day, the symptoms gradually decrease with the increasing hours but it does not totally disappear anyway. Here we are helping you with some suggestions that help to prevent nausea for most women!

1. Maintain your blood sugar level –
For this you should avoid heavy meals. Instead try small but frequent meals that have a high quantity of protein and carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are easily converted into sugar in your blood while complex ones take a while longer to convert themselves. Remember that your intake of fibers should be limited as too much of fiber soaks the sugar and causes your blood sugar level to drop more frequently. Eat regular but small meals at frequent intervals to make sure you do not have too much of food to throw up when you feel nauseated.

2. Eat before your hunger pang hits you –
You should not wait for you body tot ell you it is hungry and needs food because that means that your body is already low on blood sugar and all that excess acid in your stomach will worsen your nausea. Make sure you eat something light and small every 3 to 4 hours rather than wait for those definite meal hours to swallow and entire meal down which has more chances of being thrown up while vomiting.

3. Make sure you have enough protein –
Proteins help to slow down the process of releasing complex carbohydrates thus making more stable your levels of blood sugar. This is especially important before you go to sleep at night since there will be too much of a gap between your last meal of the day and your next one the following morning. So have a heavy meal at night with a higher content of protein. If you are eating light even at night, make sure you have food ready to eat when you get hungry at night –this could be anything – a glass of milk, a snack, anything at all.

4. Eat your breakfast slowly –
Your breakfast snack should have much carbohydrate. These could be crackers though some women prefer other food items. Make sure you move around slowly, fast movements initiate giddiness and a sense of nausea.

5. Drink enough of fluids –
Dehydration causes nausea too. Make sure you hydrate yourself well and drink plenty of fluids. Choose if you want them along with meals or in between meals. Fruit juices and simple carbohydrates so just how they will boost your sugar level quicker, they will also cause a faster dip. Try water if you are looking for something that you will be able to hold longer. You can also try vegetables and fruits that have high water content.

6. Ginger –
Ginger smell and ginger flavour help women to avoid the feeling of nausea. You can try too and maybe you are just as lucky and nothing can get simpler to deal your problem of nausea with!

7. Prenatal vitamins –
Some women feel aggravated problems of nausea just after they start taking a prenatal vitamin that has been recommended by the doctor. Tell him of the problem and switch to a different brand immediately. Also the hours at which you take the medicine help to reduce your sense of nausea sometimes. Night time vitamins cause the least number of side effects usually. Most nausea victims try an extra dosage of vitamin B-6 but please check with your doctor before you come to a conclusion.

8. Avoid trigger food products –
Some food products aggravate your sense of nausea. Carrots are a common complaint. If you too think carrots make you feel nauseated, avoid them for sometime. However the moment you give up on a particular food product, it is important to substitute it with something that will give you exactly the same components and keep you from messing up your diet. Alternatives to carrots are apricots, squash, and pumpkins. Make sure you are taking enough of proteins every day. Ideally you are supposed to have 80 to 10 gm of proteins each day. Products like spinach, yogurt and milk are very helpful.

9. Rinse/brush after vomiting –
If your mouth smells or tastes of vomit after a spell of throwing up, it might instigate another bout of vomit. Try to keep your mouth clean and fresh by brushing it or rinsing it every time you throw up. Also having mints can be helpful.

10. Try sea bands –
These are tiny bands that you wear on your wrist which help to reduce the urge of nausea. They have absolutely no side effects and are easily available at pharmaceuticals.
