The development of your baby

You baby does not have a week anymore by the time this week sets in. the tail from the bottom of the spinal cord of your baby is gone and is missing. On the contrary, the head of your baby is growing bigger and has grown sufficiently larger than the other parts of its body. The head is curved in towards the chest to accommodate comfortably within the limited space of the mother’s womb. The baby is now as long as 16 to 18 mm from the tip of the crown to the base of the rump and weighs up to 3 gm. The nose has grown sharper and it clearly noticeable in scans that you might get done during this period while the eye lids are beginning to form as well and will be prominent very soon. The digestive system is growing more complicated with the formation of the anus that is beginning and the intestines that are growing lengthier. Testes, ovaries and other reproductive features are too beginning to grow inside your baby during this week. By this week your baby will also have developed a few muscles so you might start feeling some movement inside. An ultrasound that you would undergo now would make these movements visible too but you are yet to feel them definitely and would have to wait for a few more weeks for the muscles to grow stronger.

The development of your body

This is when you should ask around among relatives to find the doctor who will suit you best and be available for you throughout your pregnancy. Also the checking up and getting familiar with your medical history is important in this case. If you have had any severe illness or surgery, you must let your doctor know that. If you are prescribed medicines check with your doctor if they are right to continue and will not have any undesired effects on your baby. If your menstrual cycle is regular and if you are a first time mother or if you have failed to become a mother before – all these things must be discussed with your doctor. If you smoke or drink, give those up immediately. Start exercising so the discomfort you are prone to feel during this period is minimal. Your doctor would discuss similar things with you on your first pre natal visit so we are helping to familiarize you with the important points here.
