The development of your baby

You are now in the sixth week of your pregnancy and it is going to thrill you to know that your baby’s development of the brain as well as the nervous system is occurring at a tremendously rapid rate. Optic vesicles help to develop the eyes of the baby at a later stage but they themselves begin to develop in this week on the extreme sides of the head. So does the passageway which will grow into the ear canal later. This is the period when you will be able to sense your baby’s heart beat too, if not normally, definitely through an ultrasound examination. The digestive system and the respiratory systems have started to develop in the embryo as well. Limbs that look like tiny buds that will eventually become legs and arms for your baby start growing too. The length of babies inside the womb are usually measured from the crown to the rump because it is not possible to determine the actual length (head to toe) of the baby anyway as the legs of the baby are curled up inside the womb for most of the pregnancy period. By this week your baby will measure up to 0.08 to 0.2 inches that is 2 to 5 mm inside the mother’s womb.

The development of your body

This week might be the one when the mother will start experiencing the first signs of discomfort that she will have to face during the rest of her pregnancy. Your body will start to get used to these symptoms and you will tend to feel a tremendous sense of fatigue. Morning sickness will begin and your breasts will feel tender and ache occasionally. You will also feel nauseated and unwell most of the times. Even though morning sickness makes you think otherwise, your stomach might feel messed up throughout the day even though your chances of vomiting are maximum during the morning. You will also need to urinate more often now and this will happen because of the change in the levels of hormones in your body.
