The development of your baby
After all these weeks of waiting, your baby is finally here. Or maybe you belong to the 95% of those mothers who do not deliver their baby on the due date. If you are a first time mother you might even wait till up to another two weeks before you deliver your baby! A baby in this week would be around 7 and a half pounds by weight and measure around 51 cm. do not assume your baby would look like those that they show in picture books. New born babies often have misshaped heads as well as a thin lining of vernix and blood. The skin of your baby might be discoloured or have patches and rashes but do not worry as these are normal symptoms. Your baby’s genitals might look enlarged because it is filled with your hormones, even the tiny nipples of our girl child may be lactating. But these should disappear in a few days and all would be fine.

Just after your delivery, your doctor would cleanse your baby’s mouth from mucus and soon you will here your baby’s first cry. This will be followed by the snipping of the umbilical cord that joined you with your baby. Some quick tests might also be performed to just ensure that all is fine. Also the baby will be weighed and measured to tell you details about its vital statistics. If you had a cesarean section then you will have other doctor around the table to take care of your new born.

The development of your body
This is going to be your special week, the week you have been waiting for all these months. You have to go through labour and delivery to hold your baby in your arms in this week. If you however do not go into labour one week after your expected date your doctor would want you to undergo a nonstress test which will tell you if the baby is getting its share of oxygen and nutrition by measuring its heart beat. To know more about these details, you should speak to your doctor as soon as possible. Sometimes if nature is not helping, your doctor will aid your labour by breaking the water sac and helping to loosen your muscles. You might even be asked to take a few medicines and even if then your labour does not seem to get to you, you will have to undergo a cesarean section delivery.

Sometimes mothers who are told that they will undergo a cesarean operation; they are mentally prepared and make plans for the special day. If you are one of those mothers, you should be both emotionally and mentally more prepared than a mother who delivers her baby normally. Whichever the case might be, your operation would soon be over and your baby would be crying its first tears before you very soon.
