The development of your baby –
Your baby’s excretory organs are fully functioning by this week and it is definitely urinating a few several cups of urine each day into the amniotic fluid. Your baby is also absorbing as well as swallowing a lot of nutrition from the amniotic fluid which means that the contents of the amniotic fluid get replenished a number of times in a day. You will know that your baby is not swallowing enough of the amniotic fluid which is not a normal occurrence when there is excess fluid in your amniotic sac. This excess fluid is known as polyhydramnios. Too much of this fluid in the sac may also mean that the baby has some kind of a gastrointestinal obstruction. Or it could also mean that the baby is not being able to urinate properly due to some problems in the kidneys or the urinary tract. Whenever your doctor checks you for an ultrasound, your levels of amniotic fluid will also be checked in the process and you will get a regular update about the health of your baby and the state of your pregnancy.
The development of your body –
This is the week when you should have decided how to feed your baby as you have to start making preparations from now on. You might choose to breast feed or formula feed your baby. The American Academy of Pediatrics or AAP is of the opinion that breast milk is the best kind of nutrition you can give to a new born. However, the decision about the way you want to feed your child is a personal choice at the end of the day. If you are still confused and cannot decide it is best to speak to your health care expert or your lactation consultant who will tell you the advantages as well as the disadvantaged of both methods.
By now your breasts should have started producing colostrum which is the pre milk that gives to your baby calories and nutrition for the first initial days before your milk begins to release if you are planning to breast feed your baby. While for some mothers the colostrum may be thin and watery for others it is thick and yellowish. There are chances that your breasts might leak of colostrum during this period. For that you need to avail of disposable or washable breast pads that will help you from staining your clothing.
