The development of your baby –
The placenta still helps to provide the baby with oxygen. But post birth the lungs of the baby become naturally operative and start inhaling and exhaling on their own. But your baby’s lungs are already preparing for that bit by producing surfactant. Surfactant is something that keeps the air sacs in the lungs from falling and sticking together when one exhales enabling the individual to breathe normally. The inner ear which is responsible for maintaining balance in the body is completely developed by now and your baby can now begin to understand when it is upside down or which way it is floating in the amniotic fluid
The development of your body –
Weeks twenty four to twenty eight need you to perform some prenatal tests which are important and screen your glucose. This screening diagnoses if there is a chance of gestational diabetes – a momentary form of diabetes that is experienced by some expecting mothers during this period only but can cause some trouble in newly born babies like low blood sugar. Gestational diabetes also causes the baby to grow larger than it would be under normal circumstances, thus increasing the chances of the mother undergoing a cesarean section operation for delivering her baby. For the glucose screening test, you are made to drink a sugary solution and then a sample of your blood is taken. If your levels of blood sugar are really high, you are recommended further tests which you will be detailed about by your medical expert. Gestational diabetes can be regulated by controlling your diet and eating well planned and balanced food with some exercising. Sometimes medication might also help such as taking insulin on a daily basis.
