The development of your baby –
A white and waxy substance called the vernix caseosa now covers your little baby inside. This helps to keep the delicate skin of your baby from getting scratched or chapped. This usually fades out by the time of delivery but babies who are born prematurely are covered with this creamy layer even at the time of delivery. The size of your baby has not changed much since last week. Brown fat grows this week that will help in keeping your child warm post birth. This is the first of these layers. During the last trimester, this fat is gained at a larger magnitude.

The development of your body –
In between weeks 18 and 20 you will feel the first movements of your baby. This will give you a sense of gratification that your baby is safe and sound and growing well inside your womb. These first movements in your stomach are called quickening and feel like butterflies or growling in your stomach. A little later in your pregnancy you will begin to feel kicks and punches from your baby. Maybe even hiccups! Each baby moves differently and follows a relatively different pattern from another. You must talk to your doctor if you feel that the movements are decreasing instead of increasing on a daily basis. Do not panic but make a careful observation and consult with your doctor for reassurance.

Some women might be thinking if indulging in sexual intercourse during this time will hurt the growing baby inside her womb, the answer is no. sex is safe to be experienced at any stage of pregnancy as long as you are undergoing a normal pregnancy. However this does not mean you will want to have sex. Many factors depend on your desire to indulge in sex and your sexual drive is bound to fluctuate at different times in your pregnancy. The varying factors include, sense of tiredness or fatigue, size of the baby, stress levels of the expecting mother etc. Make sure you do not suffer a lack of communication with your partner about these issues, be open and definite about your want. You might want to spend some time together even though you are preoccupied with the development of the baby. Whatever the case is, be open and share your thoughts with each other.
