The development of your baby –
By this week you will be pleasantly surprised to know that all your baby’s organs are completely formed and are beginning to function in sync now. The fingers and toes have separated, the tail has disappeared and while other external changes occur, some internal changes are taking place too. Tooth buds will now appear gradually and if your baby is a boy then his testes will start producing testosterone. This is the end of your embryonic period and by this time abnormalities of your congenital will disappear too. The embryo looks more humanly now and from next week your baby will be called a fetus. This should bring a lot of joy to you as you have neared the end of your first trimester successfully and will soon be carrying a fetus instead of an embryo inside of you.
The development of your body –
This is when you will make a record of your first pre natal visit and it would become one of the most important milestones of your pregnancy. A number of tests and checks will be performed by your doctor such as checking your blood pressure, weight, the position and size of your baby, urine test etc. Your breasts and the state of your internal body parts will be examined as well. You will be told about the chances your baby stands of inheriting genetic disease after the doctor asks you a number of questions about your medical history and family tree. Then with the help of a Doppler stethoscope, the heartbeat of your baby will be checked for the first time ever. You will listen to your baby’s heartbeat for the first time too. You might have to go for a blood test that the doctor might want to know about so he can understand if you are immune to some diseases that you need to be immunized against – mumps, measles, rubella and varicella. With the help of this blood test, your Rh factor and blood type will be determined as well.
