Now that you are pregnant and you are worried about losing weight during pregnancy? Yes this is the most common cases which I have seen in many clinics.You need to get more careful about what exactly you eat. Losing weight during pregnancy is the most common case. Just because the doctor said you need to put on all the weight that you had been avoiding all this while, does not mean you gulp all the French fries and oil fattening food you find around the city. Gain weight but gain it the healthy way, also keep a record of how much weight you exactly gain! If you gain too much of weight it is as harmful to your baby as gaining no weight at all. How much more weight you need to add to your body completely depends on the weight you are when you get pregnant. If you gain an optimal amount of weight, you stand fair chances of having a well developed and healthy baby. If you put on too little fat, you might have a very small sized baby which is usually 5 and a half pounds and those who put on too much weight stand chances of having an over developed baby as well as an early delivery. This might also increase the chances of them suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and other similar health problems. Here we will tell you exactly what you need to do and how much weight you need to gain or lose depending on the situation in which you get pregnant.
If you are weighing normal when you get pregnant, you need to add another 25 to 35 pounds to your body over the next 9 months. Even if you are a small eater, adding only 300 extra calories to your daily diet everyday will help you gain that much extra weight by the end of your pregnancy. And 300 extra calories a day is not much. It account to only one healthy snack and a glass of skimmed milk. Most women end up gaining up to 4 to 6 pounds in the first trimester it self. Then it becomes a pound a week in the following second and third trimesters.
If you were however underweight when you got pregnant, you have to gain a little more than the usual 25 to 35 pounds. Since underweight women have a tendency to have small babies, you should try and add on at least 28 to 40 pounds to your body by the end of your 9 month pregnancy. Keep to adding a little more than a pound each week and it should be no problem to add that much weight in the following months!

If you were overweight when you got pregnant, you have to be more careful and make sure you control your diet and add only up to 15 to 25 pounds in the next nine months. You will be needed to add only one pound in two weeks. There are some hundreds of cases on losing weight during pregnancy. We have to take care of food intake. Again excess of food intake will again leads to major problem as we have discussed above. However just because you should not add excessive weight to your body, does not mean that you hamper your diet and try to curb yourself from gaining weight forcefully. That is very unhealthy for your baby. In case you are obese when you get pregnant, you have to take the help of a dietician and make sure you gain not more than 11 to 20 pounds in the next nine months.
In the case where mothers are expecting to give birth to twins and the doctor says the same as well, you should gain about 35 to 45 pounds which means that you have that extra responsibility to add about a pound and a half to your body every week! Seek the help of the BMI or the body mass index that will help you find out if you were over weight, under weight or exactly right. The BMI is measured keeping your body built and height in mind. The best way to solve the problem of losing weight during pregnancy is to take protein intake slow and steady. The approximate amount that you are expected to gain may vary by a pound or two. Do not fret over that. Try and make it up as deemed right sooner than later. You have nine whole months to go! Some women tend to have growth spurts during which they suddenly put on a lot of weight and it gradually evens out. In such a case again, do not worry as long as at the end of your nine months, you are just perfect to have the right sized baby. At the moment your concern is not you but the child.
